I was strolling along a beachside promenade near a former fishing village, now an upscale residential town. Large flower-filled planters had been placed along the walkway in fond memory, as these planters been storage bins for the cannery, now a museum site. Over the years, the bins had been deeply scratched and marked by boats at the dock, tackle and machinery, leaving behind a painterly abstract surface.
