Older trains usually have an interesting, often crude, layered patchwork of paint colors, numbers or letters, as each railway owner paints over the previous identifying marks, replacing them with their own. On a railcar, I was first drawn the vibrant apple green colour, then the subtle smudges on the surrounding surface and rusted scratches in the paint.
