Urban alleys are rife with aging doors concealing garages or warehouses within. Often pieced together, altered and repainted, they reflect a crude evolution over the decades as occupants and uses change. In this image, I was drawn to the lines that don’t meet, the punctuation marks of numerous nails, and a carefully inset circle whose purpose is no longer apparent. I find this intriguing relationship of shapes to be complex yet beautifully subtle at the same time.
